Build Your Own Home Putting Green! Guide Part 1: Putting Green Materials

Ok, you’ve decided to tackle this project and build your own home putting green! I’ve been where you are and, believe me, it is best to have solid idea of all the putting green materials you will need up-front…so you can have them on-site BEFORE you get to the actual work.

The putting green materials will take up some room, so make sure you have enough space in your yard or driveway for what you will need.

Let me say this before we get to the meat of the list…not all manufacturers recommend the exact same materials.

The manufacturer you choose to purchase your putting green from should give you their instructions for materials, etc. that they recommend.

This guide is a reflection of what I used to build my own putting green. The purpose of this guide is to give you an idea of what to expect, so you can intelligently make a decision of whether or not you want to tackle this project yourself…or have a professional do it for you.

Also, note that I used a polypropylene synthetic turf for my putting green, so your green of choice may be different and so might require something different in a step or two…like the top dressing for example. Follow YOUR manufacturer's instructions...they know the best way to install their product.

All that said…here we go!

I will use my home putting green as the example and use its dimensions (12’x20’). That’s 240 square feet.

Click here and we will look at the specific putting green materials starting with an aesthetic touch that can be important early on in the process.
