Inside Easy Turf Putting GreensRPGM interviews Michael Bray with Easy Turf. RPGM: Your site states that your services are not for the homeowner wanting a decorative or low cost green. What makes your turf different? Michael Bray: EasyTurf markets FieldTurf putting greens, which are the only PGA approved synthetic putting greens available.By decorative putting greens, we mean the greens that are not meant for much use and are for decorative appeal only. FieldTurf putting greens are built to last and offer realism unmatched by any others, with a "true roll". All of our putting greens are completely custom in that we can control the ball roll speed, build in undulation and elevation, and include fringe and chipping area for complete short game practice. RPGM: Is the process you take different from other installation companies or is the turf the major difference in the finished installation? Michael Bray: Both. The product is superior and we have some innovative installation procedures to insure quality and longevity. RPGM: It seems that your company puts a premium on customization, such as custom made greens. Do you feel this is what makes your company different? Michael Bray: This is one of the many things that separate us from the competition. We also take great pride in our customer service and customer satisfaction. RPGM: How does customization benefit the consumer? Michael Bray: They can have a putting green that both matches their game and their desired visual appeal.RPGM: What is the average size installation for your company? Michael Bray: 500-600 square feet. RPGM: Is there a minimum budget a homeowner needs to have before realistically working with your company? Michael Bray: We will do any size project. The typical putting green is in the $10,000 range. RPGM: What is the #1 consideration a homeowner needs to make before choosing to have a putting green installed? Michael Bray: Their desire for quality. There are less expensive putting greens on the market. True golfers can tell the difference between a good putting green and a cheap putting green. Also, less expensive putting greens tend to get hard and lose their visual appeal in a year or two, leaving the customer with a "Miniature Golf Course" type surface. We have replaced several of these in the last couple of years. RPGM: If properly maintained, how long should a putting green installed by your company last? Michael Bray: With proper care, a FieldTurf putting green should last 15 years or more.
